Fantasy Books for Kids and Tweens

It doesn’t matter how old you are, fantasy as a genre of books will always excite and enthrall you. All it takes is a little bit of imagination to bolster stories of fairies and unicorns, faraway exotic lands and exciting adventures, mysterious beasts and magical creatures – everything comes alive in the genre known as young fantasy books.

So why should your child read fantasy books?

Young fantasy books engage the readers’ curiosity and awaken their imagination. Stories of mystical creatures and faraway lands force the reader to picture what the author is talking about and this helps develop the readers’ imagination. Fantasy books for tweens, like the extremely popular Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series of books, keep the reader engrossed for hours as it transports them to lands undreamt of. Even the characters in these young fantasy books are larger than life and not like anyone the young reader meets in daily life. These features play on the child’s imagination and a growing, developing imagination is key to fostering creativity.

Science fiction fantasy is a sub-genre that catches the fancy of many kids. As kids, many of us have had our coveted list of science fiction fantasy books. A Wrinkle in Time and Diary of an 8-bit Warrior are a couple of titles you can add to your child’s list of science fiction fantasy books.
