Mystery books for kids, tweens, and young adults

I love reading a good mystery book; I mean who doesn’t? Some of the best mystery books for children are just the right things to pick up during lazy afternoons when you want to get your heart racing and put those brain cells to work trying to figure out whodunit! I still remember picking up my first Famous Five book. Tagging along vicariously with five children to solve a mystery and recouping in their shed to ponder over clues while having tea and scones filled my summer school holiday afternoons! Once I had read through the Famous Five and Secret Seven series, it was only natural to move on to greater mysteries and start reading mysteries from the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series! Remember those? Those were among the top mystery fiction books for kids during the 90s!

Mystery books for tweens are perfect for children who are ready to read something a little more than early reading books. Young adult mystery books have just the right amount of suspense and high stakes without it being too gory or filled with too many frightening details. Some of the best mystery books for children pique the reader’s interest and end up creating a reader who will time and again reach for a good mystery. Mystery books for tweens can be set in a wide range of settings and encourage the young reader to look at a given situation from many different angles and this develops critical thinking and reasoning.

Introduce the concept of mysteries to your child as early as you can because reading mysteries are not just for tweens and young adults! Yes, mystery books for preschoolers is a legit genre! GetLitt! has a great selection of mystery books for all kids including preschoolers.
